(The talk between Jim and Benn Gunn when they meet.
"Three years!" I cried. "Where you ship wrecked?"
"Nay mate," said he-"marooned. Marooned three years agone, and I lived one goats since then, and berried, and oysters. Wherever a man is, says I, a man can do for himself. But, mate, my heart is sore for Christian diet. You might happen to have a piece of cheese about you, now? No?" Page 80
I have already talked about Treasure Island in my previous blog. Here is a little preview of what happened so far. Jim Hawkins, the main character, and his mother, lived in an inn where they worked hard to earn a living. One day a strange sea pirate came along to the inn, searching for a place to hide his gold. After he was killed, Jimmy and his mother took some of the gold they found, and ran away from the pirates that were after the gold as well. While Jim and his mother were rummaging through the treasure chest; Jim found a map of where to find some hidden treasure that had disappeared ever since it had been dug up on a secret island. Jim wasted no time in showing his discovery, and when he showed it, a quick arrangement was made to go to the Treasure Island in the search of the treasure, where hopefully Jimmy would finally get rich.
But the journey wasn’t easy as it was planned to be. The same pirates that were in the search for gold heard that Jimmy and his crew were leaving. They secretly decided to play being good workers on the ship, so they would get taken to the island where their gold lay. Jimmy and all the other honest crew members had no idea that the pirates were planning something treacherous. When the ship finally left the dock, it was a big excitement for everyone. On the ship, we meet a new character, known as the Captain. No one liked him because he was complaining he didn’t like the crew members at all, and that he wasn’t to have any favorites. Most of all, people hated him because of his bossy manner. He always kept everyone busy. It was lucky that one day Jimmy felt like eating an apple, and when he crawled into the barrel he fell asleep. If it weren’t for what Jimmy had heard when he had woken up, he would have never returned home to his mother. Jim had met a very friendly pirate, with one leg, known as John Silver, who was pretending to be the cook, while really he was the leader of the pirates who were planning an attack. When Jim woke up in the apple barrel, he heard Silver’s voice. Silver was giving out his plans, and when Jim heard that the pirates were planning on killing them, he immediately reported the news to the captain (who was very proud of himself to be proven right in not liking the crew members). Hearing the fate that would have been awaiting them, the captain, the doctor (who set on the journey with Jimmy), the squire (who set up the whole journey), and a few honest crew members armed themselves, and got ready for the attack. When they finally arrived to the island, the captain thought it the best to set the pirates on to it, so as to have the control of the ship. Silver and most of his crew left delighted by the fact that they could start the search for treasure, but the only problem was that they didn’t have the map. Since another part of Silver’s crew stayed, Jimmy and his friends were forced to get of a ship and find a hiding place on the island. But Jim decided to go with Captain Silver to the island, knowing that if he kept an eye on the pirates, he might have better luck. And while exploring, Jim saw the first murder that Silver had committed, Silver whom he thought of so friendly and trustworthy (must have been a great actor). Scared to death, he ran into the jungle where he got caught in the brambles. He was found by a man who lived on the island, known as Benn Gunn. His only wish was to get cheese, and when he met Jim, he pleaded him not to show him to Captain Silver, whom he seemed to be afraid of very much. The reason Benn Gunn was on the island in the first place was because he was left behind. He and his friends once went for searching for the treasure, and after months of searching nothing was found. Benn’s friends were disappointed, and they left him behind, and after three more years, Benn Gunn found the treasure. When Jimmy found out this, he was filled with glory. The pirates would never know. They could have the map. They could have anything, but the treasure was safe, safe with Benn Gunn. However, this is where I stopped. When the doctor found out about Benn Gunn, he awarded him with cheese (Benn Gunn had thanked them over, and over again), they set into a big fight with the pirates, who were after the map. I stopped here, but I know there is much more to go, and I can’t wait to read more!
This book is awfully exciting. I love the sound of the pirates, and I love the fights, and most of all I love Benn Gunn. First of all, Benn Gunn has a funny way of talking; he talks very fast, and talks in third person. “Please, don’t tell on Benn Gunn” or “Please, all ever Benn Gunn wants is cheese!” But there is another reason I love Benn Gunn…the same actor in the movie who played Gunn, played Frodo in Lord of the Flies! ^_^ And you know how much I love Frodo! :-D
(Frodo)
(Benn Gunn) *_*

And here's another interesting thing. I watched the movie Treasure Island (it was eeeeepiiiic). Here's the trailer if you want to watch it. The guy who played Benn Gunn is Elijah Wood (I think), and Jim, is an actor called Toby Regbo.
And here's the interview with the actor who played Jimmy. Just look at his smile. ^_^

Blog #5: I liked the way the author makes Benn Gunn talk (“says I”). There’s quite a lot of dialogue, but I also like the descriptions, Robert Louis Stevenson made quite nice descriptions of the island. The new word I earned was “marooned.” Marooned means to be left behind, like poor Benn Gunn was.
