Treasure Island Blogpost #2

Treasure Island
Robert Louis Stevenson
Genre: Classic
Pages: 187
"My dear," said my mother suddenly, "take the money and run on. I am going to faint." This was certainly the end of both of us, I thought. (pg 23)
Pages read: 30 (sorry not much)

While I continued reading Treasure Island there were new things that I found out. There were new characters of course, and new, more exciting events.  Jim Hawkins is the main character, a boy who worked with his mother at inn. He and his mother were broke, and ever since his father died, keeping the inn was a big problem. Billy Bones, a pirate, once came to the inn seeking for shelter. Apparently he had some very precious gold that belonged to his once used to be loyal Captain, Flint. Since the gold wasn't shared equally everyone was after it. Capitan Flint knew that after he died everyone would be searching for his gold, so he decided to bury the treasure on a secret island. He drew a map of it, and the map fell into Billy Bones' hands.  Not only were the pirates then after the treasure, but they also sought for the map.
When Billy Bones was murdered, Jimmy's mother immediately proceeded to searching for the gold. Being very poor, this treasure was exactly what they needed. They unlocked his treasure chest, and where forced to run out of the inn, because they weren't the only ones after the gold. The pirates that were after them were quite fierce, they didn't have any mercy at all. They were constantly shouting "kill the boy!" Isn't it surprising how they could kill for an object that is worthy because of what it's made of? Well, it's not actually, as pirates their whole lives they have been attacking ships and stealing for the treasure. It's what they lived on. But treachery, guilt, and greediness turned them into savage people. When being savage, there was no mercy left in their savage souls. So poor Jimmy and his mother were chased around for some treasure that apparently wasn't shared amongst them the way they wanted it. It was thanks to the doctor that they were saved from the pirates' attacks. When they were saved, Jim finally realised how important the map he had was. If anyone found the treasure they would be incredibly rich. At the time, Jimmy and the doctor had no idea how dangerous it could be to go searching for captain Flint's gold. They didn't believe in ghosts stories, and in their excitement, they could only think about how their lives would be improved. Jimmy would go to school, and wouldn't have to work at the inn any more, while the doctor would never have to work to earn a living. They went and discussed it with a rich man who would be able to set up the whole trip for them. Never had they imagined how the greed of others would manage to get in the way of their journey.

Blog Number 4:

I like it that the story starts being exiting, the author doesn't go into big descriptions. The characters are described well, it's catches the attention of the reader. The story immediately goes into action, where Jimmy and his mother are forced out of the inn by the ferocious pirates. The scene didn't have too much action, the moment the leader was trampled by horses, the story continues with less action. But I know as I read the actions will increase. It's a war between pirates and Jimmy and his crew. My dad enjoyed this book when he was a small kid, and fights between pirates were exciting for both of us, even though I am not very fond of reading about death.

Captain Silver and Jimmy.

  1. This sounds like a really interesting book from your description. It also sounds like a mystery and sort of like Peter Pan I don't know why but maybe its the pirates. Just one question, isn't it supposed to be blog 3? because you wrote 4 when you started answering the question, maybe it was just a mistake. All in all, your description made me want to read this book really much. Great job!

  3. This sounds like a very good book. But I think you could have talked about some characteristics of the main protagonist, but overall you had lots of detail in your summary.
