So far in My book Sal and her Grandparents have stopped at river and go for a short paddle after a long drive on a quest to find Sal's mom . Then a boy comes with a bowie knife and threatens to attack them if they do not leave the river. The Boy says that the land is private and that they are breaking the law. Then out of no where a snake comes and bites Sal's Grandma on the leg, After learing that the snake that bit was poisonous everyone including the boy rush to the hospital in Sal's car. They get to the hospital and Sal and the boy wait in the waiting room for Sal's grandma not knowing her condition.
I think that the author is introducing a new character who is the mysterious boy who threatened to attack Sal and her Grandparents, Sal and the boy make friends and the author starts to talk more about the boy. I think when i read again i will learn even more about the boy and he might go with Sal on her road trip or he might have some connection with Sal's mom because he always stops and thinks about what Sal is saying as if he is recalling it. I think i have read a good amount and lots has happened so far.
"Gram said, Oh! and flailed at the water. She reached down, pulled up a snake, and gave Gramps a puzzled look. "Its a water moccasin isn't it" she said.
Pg. 94
I think that this passage is important because the action is the snake biting Sal's grandma and the reaction was very calm. Also it shows that Sal is going to have a detour in her trip to wait for her grandmother to recover and might get to know the boy.
