Post 6: Dalai Lama

A true "Great".
Many people have named themselves, great, such as Justinian The Great or Constantine The Great. Although few people may deserve the title the great, the great should be awarded to a person who has done nothing but good. The Dalai Lama is one of these people that does deserve the title the great. He is truly an amazing person for what he has done for the people of Tibet but also how he has enlightened people all over the world on the meaning of life and what is means to be pursuing happiness.

Throughout his whole life he has stood before the people of Tibet helping them through the invasions from China. He is Moses, shielding them from the blows from China. He has put his life on the line to give Tibet their independence back. The Dalai Lama went to China to have peace talks with Chinese leaders to see if they can find a mid-point to the invasions and the independence of Tibet. The Dalai Lama has appealed to the UN three times in the past 10 years on the question of Tibet. He also made a campaign for Tibet called the, International campaign for Tibet.

As you can see everything he has done has been for Tibet and trying to help the people. The problem in Tibet has been in the shadows and not many people know the problems going on. People are dying, monasteries are being destroyed, monks are being killed and the Dalai Lama is the one person standing for Tibet.

Title: "Scientist Inspired by Dalai Lama Studies Happiness."

I recently read an article on how the Dalai Lama has grounded Buddhism into science. The article was written on the Dalai Lama's appearance at the Ceremony of Neuroscience. The Dalai Lama spoke of how Buddhism is not only a religion Buddhism but it is also a science of the mind. He described that Buddhism creates the mind to aspire happiness and that it teaches your mind to put all the bad away and to keep looking forward. This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” The Dalai Lama also described why he and his companions would even take the time to find the link between Buddhism and Science. Why experiment on people’s mind, what good will it do? “Neuroscience and society could have profound benefits that may help deepen our basic understanding of what it means to be human and our responsibilities for the natural world we share with other sentient beings.” By this quote he is describing that by studying the link it could deepen our understanding of what it means to be a human. Why are we here?

  3. I am persuaded, Dali Lama should e referred to as Dali Lama the Great. I really liked how you mentioned Justinian the Great naming himself that, not earning the title.
