Living History week 5

Title: My Life
Author: Earvin Magic Johnson
Genre: Biography
Pages: 364

This week i read about how Johnson was informed he got aids. He was getting ready for the game, shooting basketball in the gym and then his team doctor told him he needs to get a check up. He did, and didn't even remember it after it was just like any other regular check up. Then after a few days right before the game, the doctor told him he need to come back right away. It didn't make any sense to Johnson but his coach got him the first flight back home. There he was greeted by the assistant coach who was really quiet. Then they went in the doctors office were the doctor told him he had contacted aids. He didn't know what to think of the statement, the first thing that came to his mind was he need to see if his wife was ok and if it wasn't a error in the system. During that time he felt great and didn't think anything was wrong with him. The test came back in and his coach told him to retire even if it would devastate the team. Then the public was also getting disturbed wondering were Johnson was, there were many rumors. Eventually he had to make the announcement that he had aids and was retiring.

Questions:

1. The significant thing that my person did was that he succeeded were many other have failed. He lived in a though neighbor hood with not a lot of privileges but he still made it and nothing could have stopped him. The second thing he did was overcome aids. Back then it was a big deal since people didn't really know what it was so getting it was extremely embarrassing and scary. He still announced to the world that he had aids and that he would do anything that he could to stop making people continue getting them. The third thing he did was after sports  he created a business empire from scratch.

2. The unique thing i discovered about my figure was that he was an author, apart from the fact that he had a great basketball career and made his own company he also had the time to write a few books and try to raise awareness for aids.

3. My figure is still alive.
