Even two centuries after his birth Andersen is still not appreciated as the world-class author he was. He was a representative person of the European romantic spirit as Balzac or Victor Hugo, who incidentally both were his friends. Andersen's work is by children some of the most widely read and as an English reviewer wrote "It is only a writer who can who can write for men that is fit to write for children."


1. Describe 3 significant contributions that your figure made and the impact of each?
-He was the first Danish author to emerge from poverty.
-He build up the groundwork literature for other famous stories today such as Whinnie the Pooh.
-That Andersen focused on children as his readers in that time and not like most other writers only focused on the adults.
2. What is one MORE unique thing that you have discovered about your figure?
That there are several statues of him in the U.S.
3. What are the different awards and prizes that your figure has been awarded?
He has an award named after himself that many famous authors have won today.
Knighthood of the Red Eagle from King Friederich Wilhelm IV of Prussia in 1846.

4. Describe the death of your figure.
He died from liver cancer in his friend's house which is called "Rolighed" (Calmness)
