Blog post #5 - Coach K

Book: True Blue: A Tribute to Mike Krzyzewski's Career at Duke
Author: Dick Weiss
Pages read: 40 pg.

Some of the things that i found interesting in the book that were stated, were that he is one of the most well known coaches in Basketball  history, not just college basketball, but basketball in general. And that he is also mostly known for his inspiring speeches, quotes and many more things that would motivate a person to take pride in what they are doing. Also, that he is also well known for helping people, giving when there is not much to give. (Meaning when he was a child, he gave things like money away to the church when he didn't have much to give at all) He is also contributing in Cancer research, because one of his best friends Jimmy V and his mother, both died of cancer.

Blog Questions-Rotation #5! :)

1.      Describe 3 significant contributions that your figure made and the impact of each.

  1. Member of the V foundation, board of directors since 1993, and he has been at the forefront in the fight against cancer.
  2. He is the chairmen of the Emily Krzyzewski Family center near Durham North Carolina.
  3. He is also a chairman of the Duke Children's Miracle telethon with his wife Mikie.

2.      What is one MORE unique thing you have discovered about your figure?

  • ·      Coach K is the founder and owner of the Emily Krzyzewski foundation.
  • ·      In 2010 the Emily K Center celebrated its first class of graduating seniors.
  • ·       Every one of the students received multiple college acceptances and currently are studying at colleges and universities far and wide.

3.      What are the different awards and prizes that your figure has been awarded?

·      This year, the year of 2013, Coach K has bean rewarded with the Dick Enberg Award presented to him by the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Everyone, and I mean everyone, said that nobody deserves this award more than Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Some of his other awards in the course of his years as a coach are: (Wikipedia)

Many people also say that Coach K was given these awards, but that is not true, he EARNED these awards. There is a big difference between RECEIVING and EARNING. When you receive something, you don't work for it, when you EARN it, you have worked long and hard for it.

4.      Describe the death of your figure.
My Figure "Coach K" has not died and has yet to live.

  1. I really liked how in your blog post you have really emphasized on the difference between receiving something and really truly earning it, and I think that most people don't see that, so I really liked that small detail that you added. Interesting post, I can't wait to see how you present this to the other grades! :)
