Storm Catcher

Author: Tim Bowler

Name: Storm Catchers

Pages: 208

Date:September 12

As you may have read from the post that I published last week I have been reading a book called Storm Catchers by Tim Bowler. This is  a mysterious, spiritual novel that is full of twists and turns in the plot and all kinds of unexpected things happen. The main characters in this part of the book are Sam, Fin, Ella,  the kidnapper and the dad. To begin with I will quickly go through a brief explanation of the first half of the story. Ella, a thirteen year old girl gets kidnapped by a huge boy. The only reason why she was kidnapped was because her older brother, Finn wasn't there, so he blames it all on himself. The kidnapper takes her to a cave underneath an old and slowly falling apart lighthouse. None of the family really considered that she would be in the cave because it's so unstable so they never really searched there. Until Finn finds a device that his friend recommends to him that is supposed to find missing people. It shows him that his sister is in the old lighthouse so he goes up there and finds nothing, little does he know that his sister was directly beneath him slowly running out of food that was given to her by the kidnapper. The father finally gives in right after I stopped reading before and goes to the bank to get the 100,000 pounds for the kidnapper.

Soon after the kidnapper calls and gives Finn instructions to walk up to the old lighthouse where he simply tells the boy to throw the money off of the cliff. So Finn complies. But the kidnapper never gives them back Ella. That evening Finn tells his parents about the machine that you can use for finding people and they agree that it's worth a shot. The machine lands on a small island off the coast, so Finn and his dad rush off to their boat. As they near the island they hear a gunshot and they soon after make it to the island, only to see find that isn't Ella who has been shot it's the kidnapper. Ella is silent while her dad called an air ambulance. Later on the dad reveals that actually the boy was his son and he had also had a daughter with one of the cashiers at his shop. He describes it all as a mistake and apologizes but his wife is furious with him. After some more pushing they find out that several years after the cashier had his children, without him even knowing it he saw a girl by the sea and he was sure it was his daughter because she looked just like Ella. She got scared and he reaches out to touch and comfort her. But for some reason she runs off the cliff in a mad frenzy and the body was never found. This is an extremely sad, strange and rather disturbing ending to the book, the author actually says that he was in a lot of pain from his back and so he admitted that the book may be a bit dark. I find this book very weird but I'll admit that I did enjoy it, I would recommend this to anyone who has slightly twisted thoughts.
