The man's name is Dair and they started being friends. She gave him haircuts, they went to expeditions at the garbage and took whatever was useful especially books so she could make her own small house inside her room. While she was building, she saw a face at the window that popped up every day t the same time but she wasn't sure what it was. Dair told her that he found a children's hospital but he doesn't want her to go there because there is a new virus and there are not enough medicines for everyone and the environment is getting worse in the hospital so he is afraid for her. After weeks of hiding she wants to talk with her mom but she has no way since the telephones are bugged and the FISTS are reading the mail before it goes to its receiver. Minwhile, Dair found a rabbit and he wanted to kill it so they can eat it but Calypso didn't let him cause it might have the virus so she kept it as a pet. the rabbit named, furbal became her you gal friend and she tells her: "my brain won't tell me why I ran away". Dair fell down the stairs so she went to call an ambulance. When she returned without an ambulance and with a fire burning down the hospital.
She prays every night for both Dair and furbal to go home so we figure out that she is a Buddhist. She wanted to go home to her mom so she hid in a trucked till the boarder sand then she walked home. Unfortunately there was police in her house so she had to run back to her new house. In the morning when she opened her eyes, she saw a boy, about her age that went to 9grade just like her called Alfie that was THE FACE in the window. Since the building was destroyed, Alfie helped her to move her books at the first floor so she could leave faster if needed. Since many books were destroyed from the fire they needed to go and find some more. When she is with Alfie, she never think of Dair or furball or where they are. She just enjoys it as much as she can. After she is done with her house, she has an opening. She invites Alfie and they dance with the music of a music box. The next day, she went to the launderer and met a young women called Maisie and she seems to know more about calypso than she actually told her.
