The Pearl (Chapter 3 and 4)

Title: The Pearl
Author: John Steinbeck
Genre: Fiction / Novella
Pages : (chapter 3 and 4)

In the class novel we are reading recently, The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, the action is arising slowly.
Kino sees himself in the pearl. He sees himself in a better life. But the pearl is also considered evil and haunted.
The battle over the pearl is slowly becoming bigger and more powerful. Kino killed a person that was trying to steal the pearl from him. *the pearl is more important to him then someone's life*
Kino, Juana, and Coyotito go incognito, hiding away from the people that will try to haunt them down to get the pearl. They already got their house burned down, and attacked. What will happen now? Gotta read more :)

The value taught in this story is -- that the richer you get, the more you will want. So far, its working out for Kino, since he is mixing up his life values, and leaving behind the ones that actually matter.

  1. Hey! I really agree with your response to the story - about how the richer you get, the more you want. Kino is becoming more and more corrupted by the pearl that he is forgetting about taking care of Juana and Coyotito.
