The Hunger Games

Title: The Hunger Games
By: Suzanne Collins
Genre: Science Fiction
Pgs: 374

The Hunger Games is the first book in a science fiction trilogy by writer Suzanne Collins.  The book’s main character is Katniss Everdeen who lives and works in the country of Panem which used to be North America.  Every year there is a fight to the death called the Hunger Games with 24 kids, 2 from each sector from ages 12-18.  Katniss’ little sister is chosen, but Katniss takes her place and goes to the Hunger Games.  There is only one survivor of the Hunger Games and this is the plot which that all the action is about.
I liked this book, but wouldn’t recommend it to everyone because it is very gruesome.  There are details of how kids are killed in the arena by other kids and reminds me of stories from the Coliseum in Rome, but worse because it is with kids.  The good news is Katniss survives for a second and third book of gory adventures.  I’m looking forward to seeing the movie which is being filmed now.
