Title: Machine Man
Author: Max Barry
Genre: Fiction, Romance
Machine Man, Max Barry's latest book published sometime in late August. The story follows Charles Neumann, an inventor. Trying to go up a lift one day, he gets his leg crushed. Seeing a massive opportunity, Charles crushes his other leg, hands and arms. He is rushed to hospital, where nothing much can be done, he lies in bed with destroyed limbs. Here he meets Lola, who's story he shall share, and he meets them. They want Nemann for his inventions, and this is where the plot gets interesting. Charles is secretly wheeled off to a laboratory high in the mountains, where he begins to, with the help of them, construct mechanical body parts, greater than that of any human's. He see's a brighter future, they see a weapon, and the world see's a madman. In another ward, Lola lies, dying of a broken heart(literally, half her heart doesn't work). Charles watches, and can't help but do something. So, he sets out to create a working, mechanical heart. Slowly though, his madness takes over, and results in loss and tragedy.
I really liked Machine Man, extremely well written, gripping plot-line and an interesting concept. It really does portray one of the things that could happen if we meddle with forces we shouldn't, especially the human body. So, yet again, Barry deserves a place in the greatest authors of all time.
