Second Chance (Jane Green)

Title: Second Chance
Author: Jane Green
Pages read: 187
Genre: Fiction

In the book that I am currently reading, there is a lot going on. Based on the title itself "Second Chance" it kind of gives away the deep meaning. There is clearly a conflict - that applies to every single one of the characters. 4 friends (Paul, Holly, Olivia & Saffron) are reunited after their friend Tom dies in a terrorist attack. These friends have not seen each other in 20 years, yet when they come back together they are able to bond and share their life stories. Paul, a freelance journalist, which is happily married to a fashion designer Anna, are struggling to have children. Saffron lives in Los Angeles; she has had many roles in her film career, but is hoping for that one big break as she navigates a secret love affair with one of the most famous men in the world. Olivia, always the wallflower of the group, runs an animal shelter in London and finds herself single after her longtime lover walked out. Last but not least, the hostess of the reunion, Holly, is married to the perfect man, has two wonderful children, and lives in a mansion, but is the love true? Unfortunately not, which leaves her with a decision - stay with a man which she doesn't love for the good of her children, or sign a divorce and attempt to live happier.
WHen their friend Tom is killed in a terrorist attack, the group gathers together to mourn, and as they do, they rediscover the power of friendship, the politics of change, and the true meaning of a life crisis. But that rediscovery leads them to have "Second Chance" in their friendship, and lets them realize that you always have a second chance in life when you try.
