Title: The Roger Federer Story Quest for Perfection
Author: Rene Stauffer
Genre: Autobiography
This week I started reading this autobiography that I downloaded online for our new project called "Living History." Roger Federer is a Swiss Tennis Player and has won 16 Career Grand Slam. The autobiography I read about him is amazing. I found out about his past when he was young. There were many historical stuff that he has done which everyone talks about, but I also found out that he had a lot of negative moments in his career. I saw that he struggled a lot through his life and I believe that his struggles in life made him much more stronger. I actually found this book a bit boring and to much detailed in the beginning, but as I continued the book it felt like an experience. In the book I didn't find the writing challenging at all. There was a lot of description and great language which gave a lot of sensory details and made me see the moments that Federer lived through. The book is really well organized and it tells about Roger's career from when he was a kid when he moved out of Basel and finished college, until the day that he started his "Quest for Perfection."
One unique thing that I found in this autobiography about Roger Federer is that in a moment in his life he was playing with a coach named Peter Carter. Peter Carter was the Davis Cup coach of that time. In the year 2001 or 2002 Federer's career wasn't going that good. He actually started 2002 with winning a tournament in Hamburg, but after that he lost in the first round of five tournaments from seven that he participated in. His confidence was all gone and he didn't believe in himself anymore. One month later, his coach Peter Carter died in a car accident. Nobody expected it. It was just in a sudden. Federer was shocked. It was the first funeral that he attended in his life. He said that the pain of Peter Carter was worst than losing a match, but it made him stronger he started playing great tennis and at the first Davis Cup event he beat a tennis player that he lost to and Switzerland won their first match at Davis Cup at a score of 3-2. Federer dedicated his win to Peter Carter. Federer finished the year in top 10 and got his highest ranking as number 6 the following year. This was certainly amazing!
This is a really long and detailed post! It is nice that for the project you chose someone who did something amazing in a sport that you admire so much, and also someone who has been your idol and inspiration. :)
