This week I began to read another different book of great literature, I decided to read "The Book of the Lion." Like most books I have read in the past two weeks or so, the story takes place in the medieval period, the proof of this is shown throughout the book, such as knights, crusades and fighting for Holy land. The begining is very engaging and hooks the reader. It starts off introducing some of the characters such as the main characters master "Otto", and the masters maid "Maud" and ofcorse the main character "Endmund, who is Otto's apprentice. making it seem like an ordinary family, but soon there is a knock on the door, demanding entrance in order to capture the master. The "family" beleives that they are offgoing drunks, but soon they figure otherwise. The kings men barge in and capture everyone including Endmund who is willing to fightoff the knights even with no warefare training at all. On the way to the kings palace, Edmund is able to squeeze, and slither his way out of the caraige to freedom, but he is not free yet for there are the knights following and trying to retrieve him. Edmund grew up in the town therefor knows all the ways, he beleives he knows a way to get past the guards and "lay low" but it turns out that the last time he was in trouble was during his boyhood, he was stuck, fighting to get out of the trap he himself lay out, he is able to escape and rushes onward, but he is no match for the palaces horsmen, he is captured once again. He is treated with respect, he is wasshed nisley and given clothes gently. At that point you realize that Edmund is a strong figure and it takes 3 fully grown men to pin his hands apart. After a period of time, he finds himself in a jail cell, with his legs pined to the flor and hand spread apart, there he tells us the storry of why he and his master are in jail. Otto (the master) has been stealing from silver from coins and adding more copper for it too seem realistic, this felony could lead to death for both the master and his apprentice. In jail he thinks of many ways to get out of there or atleast to live the next life in heaven. He decides that he will fight in the battle for the holly land. That dreem is shatered when he figures out that he is not physicaly cappable of fighting against crusaders. To double the pain and dissapointed, his master who is like a father figure to him is hung for his felonies against the king. If though you believe that these to tragic outbursts happened and Endumd lost hope because of them, then you are spot on correct. He was deppressed and was willing to end his life, but a sudden spark of hope appeared he was releised but put into custudy of a "Sir Nigel," in his custudy he trains and learns to fight in order to one day fight in the crusades.
