Pages: 245

"While I was young, I lived upon my mother's milk, as I could not eat grass. In the daytime I ran by her side, and at night I lay close to her."
I like this quote because it shows the love between the mother and the child.
The book The Black Beauty written by Anna Sewell is a great book. It was not our first choice but we chose it anyway. First we wanted to read Robinson Crusoe but we found out it was too difficult language. Then we saw we had this book and chose to read it, actually I did. My mom never heard about this book but I watched the movie and I loved it. When I saw we had the book I was so happy.
The book is about a black horse called Black Beauty and her life. She starts off at a meadow with a nice owner and living with her mother. But soon after, a man who was interested in a horse came to Black Beauty's master and asked for her. She left her old master and started with Squire Gordon who is now her new master.
Black Beauty liked the new place. She had a better stable than before. She shared it with a horse Ginger who was a bit violent to humans because all of her past owners were violent to her. She then decided to hate every human. Now, she was getting better because Squire wasn't the same as the others. He was better. Black Beauty also shared the stable with a pony called Merrylegs. Merrylegs was a very good pony. He was
the favorite among Squire's kids. In the stable there was also Sir Oliver who is an ex-racer and Justice who was very shy and did not speak at all. I will see what will happen to them.
It is a very good book.

I am doing my partner read with my mom. This book is nowhere in her recommendations in the interview  but she decided that she will read it because she hasn't before.

  2. I read this book in my old school, and it's written in Black Beauty's point of view. Anna Sewel wrote this book on account of the cruel treatment horses got at the time. Anna Sewel was crippled most of her life, and she wrote only this book. I feel really sorry for Ginger ;(

  3. This sounds like a very fascinating book. I think it has always been interesting to find out what other styles of life are like, in this case it is the life of American horse/farm owners.
