Title: Lord of the Flies
Author: William Golding
Pages: 208
Lord of the Flies is a book about a bunch of boys that find themselves stranded on a pacific island. Over time the effects of being stranded alone without any adults leads to devastating results. Chapter 9 begins with one of the boys named Simon waking up in the forest. He finds the dead pilot the boys have been mistaking for the beast and, after vomiting several times walks in the direction of the other boys to tell them. It then cuts to Piggy and Ralph who are watching Jack's feast, and decide to join them. After some eating and partying Jack invites all the boys to his tribe. Most of the boys leave Ralph and join Jacks tribe. A storm begins in the sky and the boys start doing their hunting dance. Simon arrives at the edge of the forest stumbling towards the other boys. Mistaking him for the beast the boys violently tear Simon apart with their bare hands and teeth. I thought that this was a very interesting chapter because it shows just how insane all the boys are going. I also liked the gritty nature of the chapter and I think that it leaves a good follow-up for the chapters to come.
