Title: The Brothers Karamazov
Author: Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Genre: Satire, Suspense, Mystery, Comedy, Historic Fiction(kind of)
Pages: 1291
The Brothers Karamazov is a massive book, at a staggering 1291 pages and language to make even the best linguists get their tongues in a twist. At first glance it is a dark and painful tale, a brother has murdered his drunken excuse of a father... But which one? Dmitri, Ivan, or Alyosha? Whoever it was, I think the whole community is glad that Fyodor Pavlovitch is finally dead. He was in enough debt and more women have slept with him than in the entire Russia. Details aside, you delve deeper. It's a satire of our own desires and is actually quite funny when looked at closely. It's also a very detailed insight in to life in the late Russian Empire and early Soviet Union, describing the opposites between a cruel Tzardom and a strict police state ruled by a Communist grip. A whole array of characters and mysteries make an appearance in Dostoyevsky's last and one of his greatest books, a definite read for anyone who wants to have a good laugh.
