Title: The Death Cure
Author: James Dashner
Genre: Science Fiction
This book takes place in the future. Major holes in the ozone layer have developed, which makes the earth vulnerable to sun flares. Place of the earth that used to be frozen have become deserts. Along with the all the excess heat and radiation from the sun, a new disease has been introduced to man: The Flare. The Flare is a contagious disease that slowly turns you into a crazy man-eating monster. There is no cure, and no matter how vigilant you are about not letting anyone with it near you, you will catch it. However, about 1% of the human population has been proven immune to the Flare. The disease resides inside them, but does not hurt them. An organization that goes by the acronym, "WICKED" has taken a group of boys, wipes their memories, and puts them through torturous scenarios in order to get brain blueprints to try to find a cure and save the human race. Some of these boys are immune to the Flare, but others are not. They are known as "variables". The story revolves around one of these boys and his friends. Since this is the third book in the trilogy, their trials are at an end, and they are told who is immune and who will die. One of the main character's best friends is told that he will succumb to the Flare, but WICKED tells him that if he cooperates, he can save his friend. Thomas escapes with a few more people and the friend who caught the Flare, but WICKED keeps on hunting him down.
I really like this book, but I think that Thomas and the rest of his group are being a little selfish. I understand what they have gone through - it has been torture for them, and they have watched their friends die right in front of their eyes. But I still think that they should cooperate with WICKED and save the human race. One thing that is a little annoying about this book is that there is a little love triangle in it, too. I don't really like the fact that the author is trying to integrate romance into his novel along with all the action already in it. However, on the whole, I would give this book a 5/5!

This book sounds very interesting, and relates to how global warming can affect us (which probably wont happen that we will have some supernatural diseases come in that soon, but that is possible in further future) and only s humans can help prevent it. So im guessing that it's a very good book, and I'd love to read it too!!! :D
ReplyDeleteAs I told you, I got bored about a third of the way in.... Now I want to read all of it again. :P Great blog post and a catching review, good work.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to read this book, but of course starting with the first one. It sounds very interesting, and i'm not sure why but this almost reminds me of Delirium, is there any similarity?
