The Wednesday Wars

Title: The Wednesday Wars

Author: Gary D. Schmidt

Genre: Fiction

Comments: This is the book that Cassie and I have chosen to do our book report on. This book has gotten the Newbery Honor Book Award.

In the beginning, we meet the main character, Holling Hoodhood. And his hateful teacher, Mrs. Baker.

The book starts like this: "Of all the kids in the seventh grade at Camillo Junior High, there was one kid that Mrs. Baker hated with heat whiter than the sun.
Me."

We later on understand why his argument is so strong. Every wednesday, when everyone else is either at Temple Beth-El either at Saint Adelbert and he wasn't taking either Hebrew nor Catechism, Mrs. Baker hated his guts and for that complete  hour alone with her, she made him do chores and work.

He tries to get help from his mom but she thinks that he is exaggerating. Then he tries his dad but he just tells Holling to stay out of trouble or it could hurt his business deal. When he has no one else to turn to, he tells his older sister but her only response was "If I were you, I'd head to California" and then she closed her door.
