Band of Brothers

 Title: Band of Brothers
Author: Stephen E. Ambrose
Genre: Non-Fiction,WWII

Band of Brothers is a true story about a US Paratrooper company that fought in France, Holland, Belguim, Germany, and Austria. Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division was one of the most accomplished in WWII mostly due to their extended time on the front lines. They fought every where from Normandy, to Bastogne, to capturing the Eagle's Nest itself.  The book begins with the company in training which is a solid few chapters and a great build up. The character development is amazing and it happens in such creative ways. This is the same throughout the book the beginning gives great development to so many characters. Although many pages of build up and character development may not be so fun to everybody, it is really necessary and not that bad. After the training Easy Company is dropped into Normandy where they take out a pair of German 88's (Large anti-boat guns). The company received an award for what they did in Normandy and the Company's first sergeant was nominated for a medal of honor. The company is describe as they take Carentan in France, are dropped deep in German lines, and what is in my opinion the best part, Bastogne. Bastogne, also known as the battle of the bulge, was where the US army was completely surrounded in Belguim all through the winter but eventually managed to break the bulge and capture the area. Ambrose's descriptions are very in-depth and  detailed depicting the horrors of war and the camaraderie that was achieved through all the fighting and what everybody had been through. This is a great book and I recommend it to anybody who likes historical fiction because although it is real a lot of people would never believe that this actually happened. Many people don't know how devastating and horrifying WWII was and I think that Band of Brothers really illustrated it. This is probably my favorite book and also my favorite TV show.
