Holes

Title: Holes
Author: Louis Sachar
Genre: Fiction

This novel is about a boy whose name is Stanley Yelnats. Stanley has a lot of bad luck because of a curse on his great great Grandfather. He is sent to a Juvenile camp for a crime that he did not commit as a result of his family's curse. The conditions are very difficult and the warden makes all the boys at this camp dig holes that are 5ft deep and 5ft wide.

Stanley realizes that the warden is using the boys to look for something. This is where the story gets interesting because the reader learns about the curse and about the camps past at the same time. Stanley also befriends a boy named Zero. Together Stanley and Zero overcome there fears by escaping camp, finding out that there pasts are linked and solving the mystery of why the boys have had to dig holes at Camp Green Lake. I recommend this book because it has a lot of suspense and the characters are very real and make you feel like you're in the book.
