Description:
Life of Pi is an awesome book about an Indian boy. His family owned a zoo in India, but times were bad so they had to move to Canada. They and some of their zoo animals were on a huge ship to get to Canada, but it sunk. Pi alone survived - he was thrown on a lifeboat by the crew. The problem was, he ended up being on the same boat as a tiger, a hyena, a zebra, and an orangutan. All have the potential to be dangerous, but the tiger and hyena were especially hazardous. Eventually, the tiger kills all the other animals on the boat except for Pi, himself. The story follows Pi's adventures on the lifeboat. He has to tame the tiger and make sure it knows that he is "number one," he has to fish for food for the tiger, he has to find food and water for himself, he has to keep a lookout for land, and all this he has to do in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
I think that this book is great! I couldn't put it down. I also happen to be using it for my mosaic project, because it won the Man Booker Prize. This book takes a very interesting take on religion. The main character (Pi) was originally a Hindu, but then he was introduced to Jesus Christ, and then to Allah. He became not only Hindu, but was baptized as a Christian, and became a Muslim, too. All he wanted to do was to love God, and he did it by faithfully following all three religions. One thing I do not like about the book is that the author lists things a lot. It's fine for him to list feelings and thoughts once in a while, but he sure does do it a lot, and I find it rather tedious. All in all, this is a great book, and if you read it, don't be discouraged by the boring beginning. It really starts to become interesting later!

Wow, sounds like a book about survival :) but seems good!
ReplyDeleteI had already heard about it and I was sure that Pi was the tiger, good to know that he isn't! It sounds like a good book. ;)
