The Pool of Fire

Title: The Pool of fire
Author: John Cristopher
Genre: Sci-Fi

The Pool of Fire is the last book in the Tripods Trilogy, which started with The White Mountains, continued with The City of Gold and Lead and ended with The Pool of Fire. The book is set in post-alien invasion Earth, where most of technology we possess has been forgotten(electricity, books etc.). Everything we know about Earth before the Tripods comes from the elders, wise men who have survived the capping. The Tripods are huge, 50ft tall, metal monsters controlled by the Masters, an alien race from a distant star. The Pool of Fire is the story of how a rebellion attempts to destroy the three cities of the Masters, because they cannot breath Earth's air. Will, the main protagonist, is the spearhead of the operation, and with the help of his fellow comrades, attains to bring the Master's rule to an end.
The detail in the series of books is phenomenal, which is one of the reasons I loved them so much. It's a shame because the Tripods Trilogy are the only books John Christopher ever wrote. I would love to read more from his work if it existed and he definitely holds a place as one of my favourite authors of all time.
