Author: Max Barry
Genre: Satire, Fiction
I'd always wanted to read one of Max Barry's books, but I'd never actually gotten round to it. So, later this week, I downloaded one on to my Kindle, and loved it. Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read, 8.5/10. The plot goes like this:
In a world where America reigns supreme, there is no trade, and no global market. Hack is a low-wage employee for Nike, but his life is about to change. His boss, John Nike, is about to allow the company to release its new Nike Mercurys, selling at well over $3000 and are made for 0.30 cents. Now, Nike has no street credibility, and in order for some interest with the media and government, Nike plans to murder any who buy the shoes. And Hack, being the apprentice, has to do it. The police won't help, as they don't exist, and neither will the government. Upon release, several young children and teens are reported dead. Jennifer Government, an agent, looks in to the killings, and along with a miasma of other characters, attempt to bring John Nike down.
