Title: The Red Pony
Author: John Steinbeck
Genre: Historic Fiction
Pages: 200
During this week's reading of the Red Pony something very interesting happened.
An old man came to Jody's ranch and simply said, " I will stay here." This was funny to me because i find it funny that an old man will just declare that he will stay in someone elses house. The old man wanted to stay in the ranch because he was born here. He agreed to do little work but all he wanted was to die there. Jody's father didn't want the old man to stay in the ranch because they already had help and couldn't feed another person. But the father wasn't totally cruel so he allowed the man to stay over night but then he had to leave the next morning. The old man slept in the barn.
The next morning when Jody's father came to check on himthe old man was gone and so was one of their horses. You would think they would be devestated that one of their horses was stolen. But they killed two birds with one stone. They got rid of the old man and didnt have to kill the old worn down horse.
Cool!! Also its nice that your reading a Steinbeck novel after we read the Pearl as a class!
