I have been recently reading the book the help. This book takes place in Jackson, Mississippi during the 60's when blacks did not have equal rights as white people. They worked for very little money and didn't have all job choices available. Many black woman worked as maids and raised white people children. This book is about two black woman, who work as maids, named Minny and Aibileen. Minny is a woman who has many children, a sharp tounge, and is the best cook in Mississippi. She gets fired by her employer for back talking and supposedly not "feeding her mama right". She then finds help with Miss Celia. A young woman who looks like Marilyn Monroe and is outcasted because she married a man that Miss Hilly (Minnys previous employer) wanted to marry. She doesn't know how to cook and lives out in the country in a big beautiful southern home. Minny becomes her maid without her husbands permission and teaches Miss Celia how to cook and she becomes a proper wife. WHen her husband one day sees Minny coming up to the house, she was dead frightened because she though he was going to shoot her. But he didn't want to, he really appreciated Minny and actually knew about her the whole time. And Aibleen takes care of a young baby girl named Mae Mobely who, Aibileen says, aint gonna be no beauty queen, and is gonna be fat and one day act like her mama. Despite all this Aibileen loves her and takes care of her with great tenderness. Aibileen is still greaving the death of her own son and this is her first job out of mourning. And Skeeter is a white woman who is against these unfair treatments. All these three get together and publish and book called The Help, a novel from the Helps point of view. Despite its danger they publish it anonymously and see how the world reacts.
This is such a beautiful, funny, awesome book! I just love it so much! My favorite part is when Minny gives the pie to her. I hope you have a great time, this is truly the greatest book I have ever read.
