In the Time of the Butterflies

Title: In the time of the butterflies

Author: Julia Alvarez

Genre: Historic Fiction

Comments:

I've finished the book. 'In the time of the butterflies' is inspired by the true story of the three Mirabal sisters who, in 1960, were murdered for their part in an underground plot to overthrow the government. It was a pleasure reading this book- some parts were fun to read, and some were very unusual. In the past I've never read a book about tragedy and death- this is the first time. I'm not used to this type of book, so I caught myself being scared and fearful. Nevertheless, I'm glad I read it because it has taught me a lesson. 'For the safety of your life, never get inbetween the government and your own life even if it means you show symbols of courage, dignity, and strength.' The three sisters, Minerva, Maria Teresa, and Patria Mirabal, tried to overthrow Rafael Trujillo, and the result of this mission was unsuccessful because they were beaten to death, or murdured.
In the future, I reccommend myself to read an easy-going, not so dramatic, book- because obviously this has frightened me to death. All in all, the background and the descriptions of character development was quite ineresting to read.
