Inheritace is the last book in a series of 4 books. It is set in a make believe continent called Alagaesia. This series is about dragons and their riders. In this series an empire had been established by an immortal Dragon Rider, he was more powerful that any human on the planet, and he, with the help of his followers killed all the dragons save for a few eggs. In the beginning of the series, a farmer finds one of the eggs, and the dragon inside it hatches. From that day on, he travels to avenge the deaths of his relatives,and join a rebellious group called the Varden. When he joined the group, he was the one of the only 2 dragon riders in the world. This group then proceeds to send him out on missions to undermine the immortal king and take over the empire.

In this book, the main character, Eragon; had to fight the final war against the empire, and defeat the king. However, the king is much more powerful than him, and he has to find a way to become as powerful in the king in a few short months, and also plan many seiges agains various cities on the way.
