A Great And Terrible Beauty

Title: A Great And Terrible Beauty
Author: Libba Bray
Genre: Historic Fiction
Once Gemma arrives at Spence, she realizes that someone is following her. A man, dressed in a black cloak. She is still naive. On her second night at the academy, Gemma gets woken up by this group of girls. These girls run Spence and if they do not like you, you are in for a hard and miserable time. Gemma is asked to steal a bottle of wine in the chapel and goes in. Right away, the girls close the doors and lock her in. There is no way out. The man in the cloak appears in the chapel and warns Gemma about her visions. He warns her not to trust them, and asks her to stop getting them. How is she supposed to control visions that she never asked for in the first place? Gemma is troubled and tries to find answers. On her way back to her room, she seems to have another vision. It is not very clear to the reader if this is actually happening or if it is a vision. It all seems to be a dream but then, when she comes back in her room, she still has the diary that was given to her though the vision. We also find out that the symbol on the necklace her mother gave her means something. And Ms. Moore, Spence's art teacher, seems to know a lot about it and myths formed around the symbol and it's meanings.
So far, I really like this book and find it very interesting.

  1. That sounds like a really cool book! Maybe the symbol from her mom's necklace means that her mom was from some sort of magic clan or something, which is why Gemma keeps on getting visions. I'm going to find that book and read it if I can.
