The Bronze Bow

Title: The Bronze Bow
Author: Elizabeth George Speare
Genre: Historical Fiction
Daniel and his younger sister Leah live in a small village in the province Galilee in the country Israel. The Romans have taken Israel over and many of the people of Israel have made bands of people against the Romans. Daniel is a part of one of these bands and their group has been regularly meeting in an old shack. Recently one of their members, Joel, who is also one of Daniels best friends was caught and was being marched to a near jail. Daniel was told by Joel's younger sister that this had happened so Daniel rounded up their group and they devised a plan to free Joel. They ran ahead in the night to a road that the prisoners were being taken down. They all waited as other parties went down the road, and when the group of prisoners and guards came all of the boys were ready. All but two of the boys were on one side and when they came by they distracted the Romans by throwing rocks at them. When they were distracted Daniel and another boy came from the other side and freed Joel, but the Romans noticed. Daniel and Joel ran to the mountain and started to climb up. Luckily Samson, a prisoner Daniel had freed a while back when a caravan was passing, threw  big and heavy rocks onto the Romans giving Daniel and Joel enough time to make it up the mountain to safety. A few of the boys, including Daniel, were badly injured and one was killed. Samson, was also badly hurt and the Romans pulled him along with them, but the boys knew that he would soon die. The boys experience many losses in this battle, but at least they were able to work together and free Joel.
I think that the boys are not ready for battle yet and need more people and that they will not ever be ready for battle, but they will try again and again until they finally realize that they alone cannot defeat the Romans.
