Memoirs of the Geisha #2

Memoirs of A Geisha
Arthur Golden
Historical Fiction
115/500

I left off at a part where Hatsumomo is going out and she looks beautiful in her kimono. unfortunately Chiyo is the youngest in the house which means she has to stay awake until Hatsumomo comes so she can greet her. Hatsumomo also has a boyfriend and almost everyone knows it but mama. One day Hatsumomo comes home and she brings her friend too, her friend manages to steal a geisha's kimono which is very valuable silk. They tell Chiyo to paint all over the kimono and if she doesn't then Hatsumomo will not tell her where her sister is. Chiyo draws all over the kimono and when mama finds out she get beaten. Afterward though she gets the address to where her sister is and she goes to visit her and finds her! they plan to run away together in five days they will meet up at 1 o'clock next to a bridge. a few days later Hatsumomo is accidentally caught with her boyfriend and Hatsumomo then frames Chiyo for stealing money but finally Chiyo tells on Hatsumomo and she gets a slap in the face from mama. As she tries to run away she falls of the roof and breaks her arm which mean she missed her chance. Mother stops sending her to geisha school and instead she becomes the slave of a geisha. She also gets a letter from back home saying her mother and father both died.

"Never forget them Chiyo-chan," she said. "They' re all that's left of your childhood."
- in this quote auntie is telling Chiyo to never forget her parents of her sister. Even if she never sees them again she should never forget them.
