The Fault in Our Stars 2

Title: The Fault in Our Stars
Author: John Green
Genre: Young Adult Novel
Number of pages read: 177/476

In this section of the book Hazel Lancaster (the main character) and Augustus Waters get to know each other better. Hazel introduces Augustus to her favorite book called 'An Imperial Affliction' by which is about a girl called Anna, who has cancer and the book ends in the middle of a sentence. The fact that the book ends so suddenly is one of the reasons why Hazel enjoys the book so much, it ends realistically, because Anna(the narrator) was either to sick to write more, or died. When Augustus finishes the book he is disappointed by the ending so he decides to email the author (Peter Van Houten) to find out what happens in the end. Meanwhile, Isaac, Hazel's and Augustus' friend is very upset because he will be having his eye operation next week, so he won't be able to see, and because his girlfriend dumped him saying that she wouldn't be able to handle him losing his eyesight. Soon, Isaac was out of surgery, and had no evidence of cancer, but he was still very upset when Hazel visited him. When she came back home she saw that she had a new email from Peter Van Houten, the author of 'An Imperial Affliction' which invited her to visit Amsterdam where he lives so he can tell her what happens after the book stops. After, this invitation Hazel decides that she really wants to visit Amsterdam but her doctors don't think its a very good idea because they're scared that she might get sick there. And really, in a few days Hazel ends up in the hospital because she feels pain in her head. However, there are no new tumors but the pain was caused by a lack of oxygen. In a few days she goes home but still really wants to travel to Amsterdam and calls her doctor to ask.

Response:
I think that I am really enjoying this book because of the way it is written, but it also made me really sad to think about all the people who are struggling with cancer. I like that in the book Hazel doesn't think about giving up her fight with cancer and is very strong. I think this reading fulfilled my expectations because I understood everything I read and because I enjoy the story. I think that in my continued reading Hazel will travel to Amsterdam and visits the author find out what happens in her favorite book.

Quote: 'Pain demands to be felt'- page 93

This is  a quote from "An Imperial Affliction" that Augustus uses when trying to comfort Isaac. I think that this quote is very important because most people in the world do not want to feel pain and try to avoid it, each in their own way: some by running away from it, some by trying to forget about it, however pain should be felt and dealt with. This quote make me feel sad because I think of the pain of the characters in this book, but I think it is very important to understand.

blog post 2

Hi everyone!

The book in reading is the first edition of Twilight saga. It consists of 480 pages, and it is a book full of detail, and adventure. What is happening in the book so far, is that Bella is new in town, and she had some trouble fitting in at first..now, that she finally has some friends (revealed after chapter 3) she meets the Cullen family. This family seems strange to her, so she decides to look at them at all angles possible. Soon enough, Bella develops some feelings toward Edward (main character) and gets to know him much better. At the beginning, Edward seems to be very pale, and shows a un realistic amount of strength when he saves Bella from a car almost hitting her.. that's when Bella starts figuring that something's wrong. But yet, she dosnt know exactly what..

Whats happening at this point of your reading?

In these chapters that Ive read this week, everything is starting to change in Bella's world.. she's starting to get suspicious about Edward more and more, and as time is going by, Jacob is also becoming someone who starts developing some kind of feelings for. Also, its revealed that Bella has figured out that Edward's a vampire, and even though he tries to deny it, she dosnt fall under that influence, so he agrees to tell her everything..how he became a vampire, and shows her what happens if he's under the sun. Something that I found interesting is all the legends Edward starts telling her about, but he also tells Bella that she might be in danger, now that she knows about vampires.

Has your recent reading fulfilled your expectations?

Yes! my reading has fulfilled my expectations, because as a lot of you know, Twilight is a thick book, and its hard to accomplish reading in a couple of weeks time. But I read every night about 50 pages, and over the weekend sometimes even more.. I think that this book is one of the best one's I've read so far, because I read last year Twilight 3, and Twilight 2, so I already know something about the characters, but this one is special, because it provides so much more description, and one you start reading it, you can't stop.

Since its revealed that Bella already knows about vampires, and that she might be in danger, I think that something bad might happen to her..

How satisfied are you with what you have read?

Im very satisfied with what I read, because I usually don't read a lot of english (since its not my mouther tounge language) but this book is so interesting that its hard to put down. Also, even though it has many pages, its easy to follow, and easy to visualize.. also, as I'm reading the book, I have many questions, and connections that I relate to the other books I've read, but yes, I'm satisfied with my reading, and the book as well.

Passage

"I listed again in my head the things I'd observed myself: the impossible speed and strength, the eye color shifting from black to gold and back again, the inhuman beauty, the pale, frigid skin how the Cullens never seemed to eat, the disturbing grace with which they moved. And the way Edward sometimes spoke with unfamiliar cadences and phrases that better fit the style of a turn-of-the-century novel than of a twenty-first-century classroom. He had skipped class the day we'd done blood typing.. He seemed to know what everyone around him was thinking...except me." (chapter 7)

I really like this passage, because its exactly what the book is about. It shows how Bella is getting suspicious, and how she realized that Edward was a vampire.. it showed all the symptoms he needed to have, in order for her "theories" to be confirmed.

 Summary

Kallik finds another bear and thinks that is Nisa, her mother that got killed by whale. White bear explains her that they are on the Claw Path which leads to the lake where white bears call back on ice and don't fight. Kallik also wants to go there ad explore, so she asks her friend polar bear if she wants to go with her and help her find the Claw Path. Bear refuses, thinking that Kallik will eat all of their food.

Ujurak, Lusa, and Toklo finally found gathering place. Lusa stands out because she is the only black bear there. Most of the bears are telling her to go away, but she is explaining how she is with her friend, Toklo, and Ujurak. Bears explained to Lusa that black and grizzly bears aren't friends. Lusa is forced to leave and find black bears.

Kallik finally finds her brother Taqqiq when he tries to steal fish she caught. Kallik thinks she is different from how she remembers. She tells him she is his sister, but he thinks his sister is dead. He finally realized that she is his sister and decides to stay with his new friends.

Grizzly bears are deciding who is going to swim to Paw Print island, as Artucus had in legends. Shoketa, the unknown grizzly bear is convincing them that Toklo should do it. Bears agree and Toklo is terrified. He thinks that Oka's and Tobi's spirits will drown him, bud in fact they help him to swim more efficient.

Response Section

Lot of things happened in this four chapters. Kallik found her brother, and Toklo founded out that his mom and his brother still love him while he was swimming for the Paw Print island. Bears gin showed their bravery, and I liked it. Only thing that could be improved is that they should put little bit more description of the nature and characters, so we can live the book.

My recent reading has fulfilled my expectations. I really liked how Hunter organised these chapters. The plot is going in right order, bur when I read something really important, chapter finishes and I need to wait for that characters chapter comes up again. But I am really satisfied of what I read this week.

As book goes on, I think someone will get killed, and that bears will get in lot f trouble.

Passage Section
"Was I really supposed to follow the moon-path? Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Why did I have to leave the Path Way star? I could have reach the sea by now."

This passage is telling us that Kallik is starting to give up. She thinks that she will never find her brother, in fact she think he's dead, until one boy steals her fish. Whole book changed. She finally found her brother and learnt to never give up

  • Describe: Briefly summarize what you have read over the past week

Hello everyone! Finally, the main character's name is revealed, and his name is Landon. I have described his personal life in previous post, and I finished it with the girl named Jamie. So, chapter 2 begins with Landon not having anyone to ask to the homecoming dance. Every girl has been already asked, except one... Can you guess which one? Yes, it's Jamie. Landon considered being seen with Jamie some sort of humiliation, but she was his last hope, and only choice. Landon invites Jamie, who dresses nicely, and who does not carry a bible like usual. The homecoming starts normal without any excitement, but ends with Jamie and Landon cleaning up the bathroom, in which Landon's former girlfriend (Angela) threw up, because she got drunk.
A couple of weeks later, Jamie asks Landon to play the part of the father in Christmas play, in which she has ben chosen for an angel. He accepts it, after all the nice things she has done for him.

What is happening at this point in your reading?
At this point, Landon starts changing towards Jamie. It is easily noticeable that he starts defending her when someone tries to talk behind her back. I think that the relationship between them is getting much better, also as their communication. Starting with the homecoming dance, than with the play that they are going to do together, it is logic that they will spend more time together, and that they will eventually get close with each other.

Has your recent reading fulfilled your expectations?
My recent reading has fulfilled my expectations! There is something special about this book. The way that it is written, and the way that author brings the story on a very interesting way to us, readers. In every chapter, there is one main thing that the author is focused on, and he is describing it as much as it is possible. Also, sometimes when I'm reading a book, my concentration falls, and lost my point, but this book is hard to stop reading, because it's easy to understand and it's not predictable.

What do you expect for your continued reading?
As I have already mentioned, I think that the relationship between Jamie and Landon is going to get slightly closer, and it might have some obstacles in it. One of the obstacles can be Jamie's father, who shows at the beginning of Chapter 2 that he doesn't like Landon that much, and that he is very irresponsible. Also, one of the obstacles might have be Landon's former girlfriend, Angela, who I think, still has feelings for Landon.

How satisfied are you with what you have read?
Since English is not my native language, sometimes I cannot understand what's going on in the book, but this book is very easy and interesting to read, and it seems like I can read it forever. I am very satisfied with what I've read, and I am very satisfied with information that I have about the book and characters so far, and I honestly hope that this kind of writing will go on throughout the whole book.

''I was getting pretty good at handling rejection, I'll tell you, though that's not the sort of thing you brag about your grandkids. My mom knew what i was going through, and she finally came into my room and sat on the bed beside me.'' (page 34)

This happens at the beginning of Chapter 2, where Landon still doesn't have anyone to go to the homecoming with. It tells you a lot about Landon's character.
First of all, it tells you that he wasn't always accepted with his friends or people that surrounded him. He was used to rejection, and he was used to people saying 'no' to him. This passage also symbolizes how close relationship Landon had with his mother, and how caring and concern she is for him.

    Walk Two Moons-2

    Walk Two Moons

    Adventure/Mystery
    75/280

So far in My book Walk Two Moons the protagonist character, Sal, has gone on a round trip with her Grandparents. She does not want to go but her Dad made her go because her Grandparents are always getting into trouble. Soon Sal and her grandparents drive into Illinois from Kentucky and they settle down for the night next to lake Michigan. Sal has flashbacks of what her mother used to talk to here about before she mysteriously left and never came back. Sal starts to become more and more mature because she is always keeping her grandparents out of trouble.

I think what i have read might lead be the leading up to when Sal discovers what really happened to her mother. I think i should have read a little more but i can read even more for next the blog post. I think in my continued reading i will find out what happened to Sal's mom and maybe she is still alive and Sal might go on a quest to find her.

"Two years ago when they drove to Washington D.C., they were arrested for stealing the back tires off a senator's car. "We were going to return them". In Bybanks, Kentucky, you could do this."
    Page:26
This passage shows that Sal's Grandparents are not that mature even for their age or are not educated by modern society so that is why Sal needs to go with them on their road trip.

So far in the story a teacher from Harvard wakes up in a hospital bed in florence. He finds out the there was an assasination atempt on him and that he was shot in the head but survived. An assassin enters the hospital and stars shooting at everyone, she enters the room where the professor was but she came too late because they had escaped because they heard her coming. The nurse and the professor went to her appartment. The teachers name was Robert Langdon and the nurses name was Sienna Brooks. They called the police to get help, but what had happened was the police told the assassin where Langdon and Sienna were hiding. The assassin tried to kill them but failed and then was dissowed from service by her boss. The entire Florentian police force was on a search for them.

At the point where I stopped Langdon and Sienna are entering the Bobboli gardens while the entire Florentian police force is searching for them. They have to find out what had happened the last two days because when Langdon was shot he lost his memory of the two days.

I discovered many things while reading this book, for example I learned many things about Italian art and the Bobboli gardens. I learned about Dantes Inferno and Vasari's paintings.

These developments have affected the characters because he is finding out what he did in the past two days like a piece of a puzzle, step by step. By finding out one piece he can find another piece easier.

I enjoyed everything that I read so far and think that this is a great book that I will enjoy reading. It is very exciting and interesting. I esspecially like how everybody is against Landon and Sienna because it makes it much more interesting to read. When they find the rare person that hasnt looked at the news and dosent know that they are the most wanted people in Italy, it is one of those "yes, finally someone" moments. It has fulfilled my expectations because there is always something going on and there is a plot twist that makes it that much more interesting. I expect that later in the story the assassin will continue to search for Langdon but he will find out about everything that happened in those two days. I am satisfied with what I have read so far because there was rarely a point in the book when I was bored.

Describe: Briefly summarize what you have read over the past week

Consider the following questions and use them to guide your response:
    • What is happening at this point in your reading?
    • What have you learned or discovered in this section of your reading?
    • How have these developments affected the characters, relationships, situation OR your understanding of the issues presented withing your reading?
So far the book continues where it left off and nothing too unexpected happens. The main character Julie continues dating Richard. He stays being a charming Mr.Perfect when he gives her a necklace. He also takes her on a very romantic weekend out of town. When everything seems to be perfect Julie and Richard get into a small fight because Julie wasn't wearing her necklace. This upset Richard because he though that she didn't care about him and didn't think of him the way he thought about her. Even though Julie seemed to be very upset and worried this fight didn't last long. This small fight did leave an impact in their relationship and showed that even Richard is not perfect. Julie's dog Singer still doesn't like Richard and feels left out and that is why he starts going to Mike's garage every day. Mike decides to start talking to Julie again in order to win her heart. He makes up a plan to be her friend as usual and he also lies that he is in a relationship with Andrea, a girl who workers with Julie at her salon. One last major thing that happens in these few chapters is that Mike talks to a man who knows Richard. He expects to hear wonderful things but he hears the complete opposite. The man didn't say lot but a few bad things about Richard. While I was reading I felt like something was wrong and one thing that upset me the most is that Julie doesn't care about Singer as much as she used to.

    3. Response Section

Reflect: On what you have read over the past week

    Consider the following questions:
    • What do you think about what you have read?
    • Has your recent reading fulfilled your expectations?
    • What do you expect for your continued reading?
    • How satisfied are you with what you have read?

Add: Any concerns, questions, additional comments on this reading
I really like the book but I expected a little more to happen in these few chapters. I hope that soon there will be a little more drama in the book. I think that Richard and Julie will not last long and that Mike and Julie will have their moments.
    4. Passage Section

Copy: Select a passage (1-4 sentences) that you believe to be significant or representative of the reading, or that is otherwise meaningful to you. INCLUDE page number.

Explain: What does this passage reveal about the book--its theme, focus, characters? In what way(s) does this passage trouble / intrigue / delight / frustrate / reward / challenge you as a reader?

"For Mike, the rest of the week passed tortuously  Julie didn't call, nor did she swing by the shop to say hello. Though he could have called her though he'd never hesitated picking up the phone to talk to her in the past, he just wasn't up to it. For all he knew, she'd hadn't called because she was with Richard. and he couldn't face the prospect of reaching her at home only to have her explain that she couldn't talk right now because she had company."

This passage reveals Mike's feelings and what he is going through.  All this time he wanted to be with her but he didn't so he wouldn't hurt her or ruin her thoughts about how she thinks of him. He managed to talk to Julie but she never called back which just makes Mike more desperate. He was never scared of calling her or talking to her but he always tried his best to do what's best for her and not putting her in a position where she wouldn't know what to say. I hope that Julie knows that Mike is a good person and that she will start having feelings for him.
