The Help: Movie Tie in

Pages read: 62/476
Author: Kathyn Stockett
Genre: Historical Fiction

I have heard so many recomendations for this book for multiple things about the book, The Help which I am recognizing. For example, how once you are reading you can really imagine the characters and the setting. Also this book really shows how black people were treated in 1960's. What I find interesting about this book is that the author did not tell you directly about each character. She slipped in information bit by bit. Each chapter a different character is narrating and that is how you find out about them. The main characters are two maids; Minny and Aibleen. The white maid employers are; Miss Leefolt and Miss Celia. Miss Leefolt is not seeming to be a nice character so far in the book, she made a colored bathroom only for colored people.Miss Celia is kind to her maid Minny, but she never told her husband that she even hired a maid. Minny is a maid who talks back but now she has a stable job she is trying to stop. She is also a very good chef. Aibleen the maid for Miss Leefolt, she is a very nice lady raising Miss Leefolt's child who is not really loved by her mother.  Aibleen had one child who's name was Treelore, but he died at the age of 24 by a factory accident. Miss Skeeter is a white lady who talks to black maids even though most people in that time would not. SHe seems to be very kind and level headed I am really enjoying reading The Help.
