Quote from the book: ““I volunteer!" I gasp. "I volunteer as tribute!"“ I choose this quote because this is where the whole story of Katnis Everdeen in the hunger games starts. Also Katniss is known for her courage, strength and great ability to hunt. Her courage is really reflected from this line.

What happened in the book: This book expresses many sides to a human, courage, strength bravery, also weakness and evil. It is about girl named Katniss Everdeen and her path to winning the hunger games. As punishment because of a previous rebellion including all the 13 districts against the Capitol, every year one boy and one girl from each district between the ages of 12 and 18 are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event where the participants, or "tributes", must fight to the death in a dangerous outdoor arena until only one remains. These games are a way of remembering how district 13 was destroyed during the rebellion and how no one can defeat the Capitol. When Katnisses little sister, Primrose Everdeen gets chosen for the games, Katniss jumps right and volunteers as tribute. She and Peeta Malarac are chosen for the games. As they walk slowly to the train, so many things are going through their minds. On the train they find themselves in a warm, cozy room with delicious foods. As they meet their mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, who absolutely useless.  A mentor is a victor of a past Hunger Games who must train subsequent tributes from their district, help them know how to survive, however the only thing he is good at, is emptying the alcohol bottle. When they arrive at the to the Capitol, everyone is congratulating them, but Katniss doesn't get the point of that, as Katniss says in the book. Before the games each tribute has an interview on live television, this is where Peeta confesses his love for Katniss the first time.

Katniss is getting ready for the games, and taking advice from her stylist Cinna. Cinna was making sure to make them look good in public so that they get much life saving presents from their sponsors during the Hunger games. Katniss steps into the, the class door closes and she goes up into the field. The clock starts ticking, 60, 59, 58....... 3, 2, 1, and the games begin. Peeta runs into the forest, but Katniss runs toward the cornucopia which is filled with different objects which can help the tributes survive, like swords, bow and arrows. Even though Haymitch advised her and Peeta not to go for one of the bags, since it always ends up being a blood bath, however, Katniss gets a bag, and runs for the woods, harmless and safe, for now.

I really like this book since it is very exciting and you always want to know what happens next. It is an adventure however they also threw in a little romance and feeling in there which I really like.
