Title: The Boy in the Striped Pajama
Author: John Boyne
Genre: Fiction
Comments:
This book is very interesting because it tells the story in a way that makes you believe it is real. In the book everything is explained through a boy called Bruno. He is only 9 years old. It is interesting how a little boy sees the world and how he thinks of things. Therefore I really like the book and I would recommend it to everyone.
Summary of the first pages:
The little boy Bruno, who is only nine, has a great life in Berlin. He has a big house, a lot of friends and the city is also very interesting for him. Bruno has a sister called Gretl. In the house there is also a cleaning lady called Maria. Bruno loves Berlin. One day he comes happily home from school and he immediately goes up to his room. As he entered it he saw Maria folding his clothes and packing them into a suitcase. Bruno asked what was going on but she did not answer. The nine year old boy wanted to ask his mom but as he entered the room he saw her crying and also packing her suitcase. He kept on asking what was going on but the only answer he got was that he should go and help Maria pack his suitcase. After everything was done his mom explained that they will move to a different place because of father's work, although Bruno didn't even know what his dad's job was. Bruno still can't believe it.
Later in the book Bruno arrives in the new home which was much uglier than his old house. There were no friends around. The only people Bruno saw were soldiers. Bruno is very curious and likes to explore, so he found something in his room. It was a window. He looked out of it and hoped that he had not explored it. Outside he saw something awful. Many people with striped pajamas were working on something. Soldiers would go to them and tell them what to do. The striped people were in a huge cave. There was a fence, which was made out of metal and on top it had big and sharp spikes, around them and Bruno couldn't even see the end of the it. The little boy did not understand what the people were doing.
Till now I really enjoyed the book and I would like to recommend it to everyone.
