A House of Night Novel: Marked

Title: Marked
Series: House of Night
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Horror and Mystery

"The Casts reeled me in from paragraph one. I...devoured it in one sitting."
-MaryJanice Davidson, New York Times bestselling author of the Undead series

This book starts off like this:

"There also stands the gloomy house of Night;
ghastly clouds shroud it in darkness.
Before it Atlas stands erect and on his head
and unwearying arms firmly supports the broad sky,
where Night and Day cross a bronze threshold
and then come close and greet each other."
                                                                                                          (Hesiod, Theogony, 744 ff.)

Ever since Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga, many people have been talking about vampires and many books have been written featuring them; but Marked is a completely different twist on vampires and humans. It is based in a world where, around the time of puberty, some will be marked and will have to go through a transformation . In those who've been marked, some will survive and complete the transformation from a fledgling to a full grown vampire and others will die during the process because their body is not be strong enough to support the change.

This book is really interesting because vampires and humans live in parallel and some of the most famous people we know -for example Shakespeare- are vampires. This is because vampires are thought to have special abilities. I really like this book as it is a new perspective on vampires, not just people who go around drinking blood. And it is interesting to see a normal teenager undergoing such a change and trying to accept what is happening.

"From the moment I stuck my face in this book it hooked me! Totally awesome new take on vampires! Marked is hot and dark and funny. It rocks!"
-Gena Showalter, Author of MTV's Oh My Goth
