The Wind in the Willows

The Wind in the Willows is a classic children's story about a river rat, a mole, a badger, and an adventurous toad. The four of these ani mals meet one day during beginning of spring and become very good friends. Throughout the book these four friends go on all sorts of adventures together such as; traveling throughout the wild woods, riding around in gypsy caravans, and defeating weasels who take over toads home!
"Toad talked big about all he was going to do in the days to come, while stars grew fuller and larger all around them, and a yellow moon, appearing suddenly and silently from nowhere in particular, came to keep them company and listen to their talk." (Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows, Ch. 2) This quote i think is exceptionally fitting towards the book because most of the adventures that the animals go on is due to toad. For toad is always taking up a new hobby whether its riding in caravans, racing in motorcars, or doing anything else it usually causes some great adventure.
Though considered a children's book i greatly enjoy The Wind in the Willows and i think that no matter what age it can always be found to be enjoyable.

The Eternal Ones

Title: The Eternal Ones
Author: Kristen Miller
Genre: Teen Fiction
Comments:
The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller is a story about a love that never dies. Haven Moore, age seventeen, eighteen in ten months has been having visions since she was a small girl, around age eight. These visions are of a different person named Constance, who lives in New York and is in love with a boy named Ethan. Through these visions Haven can remember places she has never been to, and tell stories of people she never met. Yet Haven also has this feeling of needing to find Ethan, so when a well known socialite from New York named Iain Morrow brings up feeling of Ethan, Haven is pulled towards him and must go to see if he is what she has been looking for the whole time.
The Eternal Ones is a deeply romantic novel, that deals with the topic of true love never dying, it shows so many different character relationships between Iain and Haven when they meet, between Ethan and Constance, between Ethan and Haven and between Haven and her very good friend Beau. This book is very well written and if you liked books such as Twilight, this reminds me of The Eternal Ones because it is the concept of love living on forever, as vampires do.

The Way I See It

Title: The Way I See It
Author: Nicole Dryburgh

This week, I read a book called The Way I See It. This book is an auto-biography of a girl who was an excellent gymnast and a great student, until she got a malignant tumor on her spine, which caused her to become blind and unabled to walk.
In the first few pages of the book, Nicole describes her whole family, and the fact that her mom, Jackie, had to leave her job as a dental nurse, to take care of Nicole when she got extremely ill. She also talks about her five friends, who've been there for her through all the hard times.
Nicole's nightmare started in 2000, when she was on a holiday with her mom in Scotland. She hit her hand while she was swimming in the swimming pool, and the pain in her hand was unbearable. It progressed to her neck, over a few days, and she was often unable to sleep at night. Her mom took her to see a doctor, and that is when Nicole got her first out of many MRI scans. When they returned to England, Nicole also had tons of blood test done. That is when she realized that she has a dangerous illness, that could potentially be deadly. Many of the kids at her school, made fun of Nicole's tumour. I thought that this was unbelieveable, and I can't believe that someone would make fun of a person with a serious sickness. However, it is really amazing that Nicole stood up for herself, and didn't let the horrible words get to her. Her first operation took place on August 7th, 2000. After the operation, Nicole and her family knew exactly what they were dealing with; a rare type of cancer, known as the Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour. This is as far as I have read into the book, and it is scary to predict what my happen next to a girl who is only 11! However, despite everything that she has been through, it is amazing and quite inspirational that Nicole decided to live her life to the fullest, even after the illness left her with numerous disabilities, and that she decided to write a great book about her journey.

The Bronze Bow

Title: The Bronze Bow
Author: Elizabeth George Speare
Genre: Historical Fiction
Daniel and his younger sister Leah live in a small village in the province Galilee in the country Israel. The Romans have taken Israel over and many of the people of Israel have made bands of people against the Romans. Daniel is a part of one of these bands and their group has been regularly meeting in an old shack. Recently one of their members, Joel, who is also one of Daniels best friends was caught and was being marched to a near jail. Daniel was told by Joel's younger sister that this had happened so Daniel rounded up their group and they devised a plan to free Joel. They ran ahead in the night to a road that the prisoners were being taken down. They all waited as other parties went down the road, and when the group of prisoners and guards came all of the boys were ready. All but two of the boys were on one side and when they came by they distracted the Romans by throwing rocks at them. When they were distracted Daniel and another boy came from the other side and freed Joel, but the Romans noticed. Daniel and Joel ran to the mountain and started to climb up. Luckily Samson, a prisoner Daniel had freed a while back when a caravan was passing, threw  big and heavy rocks onto the Romans giving Daniel and Joel enough time to make it up the mountain to safety. A few of the boys, including Daniel, were badly injured and one was killed. Samson, was also badly hurt and the Romans pulled him along with them, but the boys knew that he would soon die. The boys experience many losses in this battle, but at least they were able to work together and free Joel.
I think that the boys are not ready for battle yet and need more people and that they will not ever be ready for battle, but they will try again and again until they finally realize that they alone cannot defeat the Romans.
Title: My Fair Godmother
Author: Janette Rallison
Genre: Teen Fiction
Front Cover             Savannah is bummed out when her boyfriend dumps her for her older sister and wishes to find a guy to take her to prom. Her fairy god mother, Chrissy is like another regular teenage girl and is only what you would call a fair godmother since she never did very well in school. But when Chrissy sends Savannah back to the middle ages- once as Cinderella and then as Snow white she know she cant mess up her last wish. She wishes for a prince like guy to take her to prom. Chrissy then goes and sends a boy, Tristan from Savannah's class to become a prince in the middle ages to take her to prom. They team up to defeat a troll, dragon and knight.
This book had a very clever plot. I liked how the author showed how simple things like shampoo and bathrooms weren't used like they are used today. It showed the perfect perception of how a modern teenage girl would be in the middle ages.  I would recommend this to any girl who likes to laugh and read a book about   how a teen right now would perceive the middle ages.
