Bloody Jack
L.A Meyer
Historical Novel
336/336

After Mary's ship, HMS Dolphin, was semi blown up by a fire ship they drifted to an uninhabited island where the crew started to repair the ship and look for supplies. Tiddle, the scientist of the HMS Dolphin created a large kite which he uses Mary and sends her high up into the sky to look around for other land, Tiddle ties one of the rope to the kite and the other to a palm tree on shore. The wind is to strong for the palm tree and rips it right off the island with the crew trying to hold down the tree but fail and Mary drifts of into the open ocean. After a day of gliding around with a tree attached to the kite Mary sees land and as the kite is going down she lands by the island and swims to the island. She makes a shelter with the kite and starts to find food and fresh water. After a few days of being stranded Mary sees a small sail ship coming to rescue her but as her friends come closer LeFievre and his crew come to beach, Mary sees LeFievre's ship wrecked a few meters up the shore. As Mary's friends come to the rescue LeFievre and his remaining crew begin shooting at the ship while Mary hides in the brush just be on the beach. LeFievre's crew find Mary hiding and bring her to a noose with a barrel under her feet. As Mary's friends come to the rescue LeFievre threatens to kick the barrel but Mary's friends keep coming and charge up the beach, LeFievre gets shot but as he falls he kicks the barrel and Mary starts to choke. James, Mary's best friend cuts the noose and saves her life. The crew finds out that Mary (Jack) is a girl and take her back to the HMS Dolphin which is repaired and sail to Boston where Mary gets dropped off as the HMS Dolphin heads back to the UK to fight off the French and Spanish.

I finished the book and i enjoyed it, I saw other books by the same author and hope to read them.

"I see a rope has been strung over a low branch, and at the end of the rope, over a the keg hanging down, is a noose. I am put on the keg."

I think this passage is important because it tells of how Mary is on the verge of being hung and choking to death, but her crew comes to the rescue but it could be her death if they come to close.
