Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austin
Classic

Elizabeth is with her aunt and uncle and they decided to visit Pemberly. Back then they named very rich houses. Pemberly just happened to be the home of Mr. Darcy, a man that had just recently proposed to Elizabeth. Elizabeth declined to him because she thought he was a horrible man because of rumors spread about him. Her Prejudice against him then was really strong until the day after she rejected him he gave her a letter telling the truth of all she had against him. After reading the letter she did not have prejudice against her. Now she was going to his house. Luckily she found out that he was not there the day they went so she was glad because she did not want to see him because she would be embarrassed. As they were taking a tour of the garden she saw him, and was really surprised and she tried to avoid him while she was there. She was able to just get by with just talking to him a minimal amount. Within the next few days Elizabeth got a letter from Jane saying that her sister had eloped with Mr. Whickham. As she was leaving the post office to get her aunt and uncle she ran into Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth told her what had happened, and he knew how she felt because Mr. Whickham had almost eloped with his sister. Mr. Darcy feeling very sorry for Elizabeth than left. Elizabeth returned home with her aunt and uncle as soon as she told them the news. At home Elizabeth's mother was very sick because she could not believe that her daughter had gone and eloped. After a while Elizabeth's mother thought of how joyous it would be if her daughter was married. It would be one less child to marry and she was very excited about their elopement and hoped that they would get married as soon as possible. Once Elizabeth's sister and Mr. Whickham were found in London they were married and than they went off to where Mr. Whickham worked. Later Elizabeth wondered about all that really happened so she sent her aunt a letter. It was thought by everyone that her uncle had found them and paid for the wedding and so on. When Elizabeth got the letter back from her aunt she found out that Mr. Darcy had found Mr. Whickham and her sister and he paid for the whole wedding. The next time they met Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth again and they were happy together. A man that Elizabeth's older sister had recently been acquainted with and then he had left came back and proposed to her. They were married as well. Making 3 married daughters making Elizabeth's mother very happy.
  • What do you see as the most rewarding aspect of reading this book with me?
Spending time with Eliza. I really enjoyed spending time with Eliza. Even though the book was difficult I think we both enjoyed it especially since we watched the movie with it.
  • Are you happy with the choice we made for this classic novel? Why?
I did not realize how difficult the language and vocabulary was in the novel. I knew that how people spoke would be difficult, but I did not realize how difficult to understand. This is why I had to read aloud and explain much of the book. I enjoyed the time we spent together because we spent more time together, but I think it would  have been better if we read an easier book.
  • Is there another book that you would like to read together in the future?  Why would this be a good choice for us?
I would like to read the Blue Sword by Robin McKingly. I think it would be an easier read, and because it is a fantasy novel I also think it is good because Eliza likes Fantasy. Eliza has never read any books by Robin McKingly and I think that this would be good for her to have more books that she would like to read. She has written many other books and if Eliza likes the Blue Sword than she will have many books to read.
