Title: Little Women
Author: Louisa May Alcott
Genre: Classic
For my book report project, I have been reading the book Little Women, which was written by Louisa May Alcott. The time period that this book is set in is the Civil War in America, and it depicts the lives of four, very poor, sisters and their daily struggles and adventures.
Personally, my favorite character is Joe. She is a tomboy, but despite being a little bit "boyish", she has a great love for literature and acting, which I believe makes her a really interesting character. From what I read so far, Jo can get quite "lost" in the book, and tends to take all the stories quite seriously. Also, she has a big role in the winter play that the girls throw for their neighbors each Christmas. This shows that despite her attitude, Jo is quite an artistic, emotional, person, who express herself in the most creative ways. Jo also cares a lot about her sisters and her mom. She is always there to help them, and she sincerely wants to make them happy, which she proved by giving up all of her allowance to buy her mom a Christmas present. I also really like Jo as a character, because she is not quick to judge people. For example, despite most of her sisters being quite quick to judge him as the "rich" neighbor. However, Jo got to know him, by talking about all the different things they had in common, such as cricket and other sports. My mom really likes Jo as a character, as well, but she also really enjoys Meg's personality. Meg is the oldest one of the girls, and my mom really likes how she is so protective of her sisters. Meg attempts to be a true lady, despite the bad conditions she lives in, and she tries to help everyone, despite not always being able to. She is always trying to lead her sisters onto the right path, and gives them good advice. My mom found it quite amazing how Meg doesn't get into a lot of conflicts with her sisters, even though all of them are so different from each other. She really does give an impression of another mother figure in the girls' lives. Meg is very mature, and extremely caring and loyal.
